DESIGN PROPOSAL
Focusing on the use of the full site, and the core of the scheme aiming to provide affordable housing, I developed a plan that made strong use of the site and enabled the creation of interesting inside/outside spaces. The unique layout allowed me to squeeze 15 three bed, 64 two bed and 45 one bed apartments into the space. Alongside this, I also created a social space along the canal path that includes space for 6 independent shops to take up residence. The key aspect of the design was a way of integrating a social area alongside a housing scheme without the two interfering with one another. The way I have staggered the structures and used the natural landscape to direct the noise is essential to the noise comfort of the area.

TOILET
As my scheme revolved around the efficient use of space, I started by designing the internal room spaces and sizes in order to create a small but comfortable area. This means that only those most in need will be attracted to the properties. The space is more than able to cater for the desired number of people yet will hopefully mean that those most vulnerable in society are able to afford a place to live. Also, the majority of housing is catering for families, with 2/3 bed apartments making up almost 50% of the residents. These tend to be the area of society that is missed in developments, with developers favouring 1 bed and studio flats.
