DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
Following on from the iterations I developed during the Big Draw I took my two favourite ones and combined the best aspects of the different schemes into one design that I carried forward.

The first was simply splicing the two schemes together. However, the juxtaposition between the sizes of the buildings was too great and the site didnt maintain a comfortable circulation.

In order to balance out the scale of the buildings I reduced the size of the apartments closest to the canal and increased the size of the structures across the rest of the site.

Once I developed the internal spacing of the rooms I realised that the buildings closest to the road would have to be larger to accommodate the number of apartments I wanted.

The final touch was to add bridges between the buildings that will rise and fall with the terrain.

It was still too separate so I adjusted the form of the canal structure and created a zig-zag that is far more open and comfortable.
